Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at the closing session of a gathering held in Abuja in honor of the families of martyrs, the senior cleric said the blood of martyrs continues to serve as a foundation for the awakening and dignity of the Muslim Ummah. He stressed that the legacy of those who lost their lives must be preserved through unwavering commitment to faith and righteous conduct.
Perseverance Despite Threats
Addressing the pressures faced by his movement over the years, Sheikh Zakzaky said enemies of religion have repeatedly sought to intimidate the faithful through violence and threats. Marking “Martyrs’ Day,” he noted that such tactics are often used to deter others from joining the struggle for justice.
“These arrows and guns aimed at us are meant to frighten the people,” he said. “But this is the path of those who have sacrificed for the sake of God. Anyone who fears death should step aside, for this front is not a place for fear or hesitation.”
‘No Fear Left’ After Years of Oppression
Reflecting on past attacks targeting members of the movement, the cleric said such experiences have only strengthened their determination.
“If they want to threaten us, with what will they do so—bullets? They have done that before and we are still here. Today there is no fear left,” he said, adding that the families of the martyrs remain resolute despite their losses.
Victory Through Steadfastness
Sheikh Zakzaky also elaborated on the Qur’anic concept of victory, describing it as the steadfast adherence to truth until the end of one’s life—whether through natural death or martyrdom.
“This is ‘Ihda al-Husnayn’—one of two good outcomes: victory or martyrdom,” he said. Citing verse 13 of Surah al-Saff, he reminded believers of God’s promise of “help from Allah and a near victory,” describing it as a prelude to eternal success in the hereafter.
Message to the Children of Martyrs
In a special message to the children of martyrs, Sheikh Zakzaky urged them to embody moral excellence and religious integrity, saying their conduct should reflect the values of their martyred fathers.
“Show through your character that your fathers’ blood was not shed in vain,” he said. “Call to religion through righteous behavior—through prayer, worship, remembrance of God, chastity, and good morals. Let people see religion in your actions and words.”
Concluding his address, he encouraged the younger generation to become symbols of steadfastness, insisting that such spiritual and moral commitment paves the way for success both in this world and in the hereafter.
